A Study On The Explicitation Of Personal Pronouns Based On Premier Li Keqiang’s Press Conferences From 2014 To 2022

With the continuous development of corpus translation,the explicitation of personal pronouns has attracted more and more scholars’ attention.At present,compared with the study on the explicitation of personal pronouns in the field of literary translation,the study on the explicitation of personal pronouns in the field of political interpreting is relatively insufficient.Relevant research needs to be extended to more types of text and interpreting.In view of this,this study explores the explicitation of personal pronouns in Chinese-English(C-E)consecutive interpreting of Premier Li Keqiang’s press conferences(PPC),hoping to find out the explicit features of personal pronouns in the interpretation of political texts.In order to achieve the research purpose,the thesis collects the original Chinese text(Corpus A)and the interpreted English text(Corpus B)of PPC from 2014 to 2022 as the research materials.After segmenting the sentence and aligning the text,the author tags and counts the transferring types of personal pronouns.Then,by combining data analysis and example analysis,the author explores the explicit features of personal pronouns.The research result shows that in the C-E consecutive interpreting of PPC,the interpreter mainly adopts four methods to transfer personal pronouns: correspondence(45%),addition(29%),substitution(10%)and omission(16%).Through addition and substitution,the implicit information in the source language has been clarified,leading to the occurrence of explicitation,which can be realized in three specific ways: adding the first-person plural pronoun “we”;adding the third-person singular pronoun “it”;and replacing personal pronouns with specific nouns.And in the C-E consecutive interpreting of PPC,the reasons for the explicitation of personal pronouns mainly include three aspects: the different syntactic structure and formalization degree of Chinese and English languages,the requirements of political texts for “faithfulness”,the special function of first-person pronoun “we” in political texts,and the particularity of interpreting activities.This study not only provides certain supplementary significance to the study on the explicitation of personal pronouns,but also provides some reference for the interpreting techniques of personal pronouns in political texts and for the application of corpus in interpreting teaching.
