The Expression Of Memory In The Language Of Oil Painting

As an important carrier of memory,painting can not only let us look back to the past,but also let us see the subjective understanding of the artist.Since the Renaissance,oil painting,as an important way of painting expression,has been carried forward by predecessors.After the post-Impressionism,the spiritual memory of painters conveyed through expressive language has been fulfilled in many great works.This paper mainly analyzes from two perspectives,that is,episodic memory and semantic memory in people’s long-term memory,taking Lvpertz’s works of different periods and different language styles as examples to systematically analyze the internal memory symbols in paintings.As part of our long-term memory,semantic memory provides a solid foundation for us to continuously learn and understand things.Language,culture,history,science and other knowledge is one of the parts of our semantic memory.Before modernism,the memory of the history of religious myth has always been one of the main themes of oil painting creation.Both Poussin and Rubens reproduced the semantic memory of that era through many epic works.As a painter promoting the "new painting movement",contemporary artist Lvpertz hopes that contemporary painting should not completely lose the traditional painting factors and forms,so as to return to the true original heart.So these traditional semantic memories appear again in contemporary society,and sublimate these memories with a new perspective and content.Compared with semantic memory,episodic memory allows us to have a wider range of perceptions,because memories that are experienced in person tend to be more comprehensive and realistic.Semantic memory in painting is reflected in works of different styles in different times,because as an individual artist,things in life can become inspiration and motivation for creation.However,in modern and contemporary paintings,many artists break the existing narrative structure,and constantly approach the memory symbol in the painting to the memory reality,away from the visual reality.Among these artists,Lvpertz is also one of them.He used expressionist techniques to show the autobiographical motif particularly real and profound.
