Practice Report On The C-E Translation Of Prose Wu Duan Huan Xi From The Perspective Of Translation Aesthetics

Since the beginning of translation activities,there have been many different types of translation,while literary translation is arguably one of the more difficult types.However,compared to C-E translation of poetry and novels,there are relatively few studies of C-E translation of prose.This is also reflected in studies of Yu Xiuhua’s work,with far more attention paid to the author’s poetry than to her prose and fiction.The disabled poet Yu Xiuhua,has quickly risen to prominence because she writes exceedingly straightforward poems revealing the self-consciousness of women in today’s age.As a matter of fact,her prose is equally rustic,scalding and straight to the soul.This translated text is an excerpt of five representative essays from Yu Xiuhua’s debut collection Wu Duan Huan Xi,namely Gift,Panegyric,Cut a Piece of Spring for My Village,The First Anniversary of My Divorce,and The Vanishing Buddha,which express her thoughts on several inevitable events in her life including writing,her hometown and marriage.Through the collision of words,the interplay between body and soul is conveyed,revealing Yu Xiuhua’s vast inner world and provoking the readers’ awareness and contemplation of themselves.After translation and study,the translator found that Yu Xiuhua’s prose collection contains a great deal of formal and non-formal beauty.Therefore the translator uses Liu Miqing’s translation aesthetics as a theoretical guide to explore the aesthetic values embedded in the source text and explains how to reproduce the aesthetic effects of the original text from the formal level such as sound and word and the non-formal level such as emotion and image,thus creating a better reading experience for the target readers.By analyzing the characteristics of the original author’s text and combining them with Liu Miqing’s theoretical guidance on the aesthetics of translation,this paper provides some feasible strategies to deal with the problems arising in the study,hoping that this translation practice will provide some reference for the study of C-E translation of the same type of prose.
