| Since the concept of "Meaning of Work" was proposed by scholars,it has attracted great attention from many organizational managers and practitioners,and the proposal of this definition has shifted the research focus of work psychology and work behavior from the perspective of hedonism to the perspective of meaning construction.Regarding the relevant concepts of work meaning,there are basically three types of orientations in academia,namely static work characteristic orientation,value orientation,and dynamic feeling orientation.Among them,the most mainstream orientation is the feeling orientation.Therefore,in order to distinguish it from the other two orientations,we usually use the term "meaning of work" to define it.With the development of material living conditions in today’s society,people are increasingly pursuing a sense of meaning in work,especially for the new generation of "post-95" and "post-00" employees.Although the popularity of work significance in domestic research has gradually increased,there is still a lack of work significance scale with high reliability and validity.At present,the commonly used work significance scale in China is a scale compiled by Steger(Steger & Dik,2012),but the scale is compiled by the literature review method.The Comprehensive Work Sense of Meaning Scale(CMWS)compiled by Lips(Lips-Wiersma & Wright,2012)is the most comprehensive scale on work meaning in academia so far,so this study aims to revise the Comprehensive Work Sense of Work Sense Scale(CMWS),strive to revise a work sense of meaning scale with high reliability and validity,and apply and study the characteristics of "post-90s" employees’ sense of work meaning.Firstly,the literature method was used to find out the original scale of the Total Work Sense of Significance Scale(CMWS)and the domestic scales related to the Total Work Sense of Meaning Scale(CMWS)for analysis.Secondly,the original scale of the Comprehensive Work Sense of Meaning Scale(CMWS)was translated and back-translated several times by expert consultation to determine the final items.Finally,the revised CMWS official version of the scale was surveyed among "post-90s" employees.Therefore,this study contains three sub-studies,each with sample sizes of462,749 and 883,respectively,and the recovery efficiency of questionnaires is more than 85%.Study 1: Scale pre-application.Find professionals to Chinese translate the CMWS original scale,form a pre-test questionnaire and distribute it,and conduct exploratory factor analysis on the collected questionnaire.The aim is to make a complete revision of the CMWS scale based on existing theory and collected data.Study 2: The scale is officially applied.Based on the CMWS scale revised from Study 1,a wider range of tests were performed,and the tested data were collected and then performed for exploratory factor analysis(EFA)and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA).The aim is to determine the dimensional attribution of topics from the perspective of data analysis and which topics need to be revised again.Study 3: Scale reliability and validity test and its application.The reliability and validity of the CMWS scale determined in Study II were tested according to a variety of indicators,and the comprehensive test of the scale was ensured as much as possible.After the test,the CMWS scale was applied to study the demographic characteristics of the sense of meaning in the work of "post-90s" employees.The results of the study show that,first,the CMWS scale Chinese 28 questions in 7dimensions,specifically: cooperation with others,service to others,self-presentation,self-presentation,acceptance of reality,vision of the future,and balanced relationships;Second,the results of exploratory factor analysis show that the statistical indicators are not ideal;Third,the results of confirmatory factor analysis show that the 7-dimensional structure of CMWS scale is supported.Fourth,the revised CMWS scale meets psychometric requirements in terms of reliability and validity.The internal consistency reliability of the Chinese CMWS scale was as follows: cooperation with others.834,service to others.846,self-presentation.904,self-presentation.885,acceptance of reality.897,vision of the future.906,balance relationship.879,and total score of work meaning.912;the Chinese version of CMWS scale had significant correlation with the sense of mission scale,work motivation scale,and work engagement scale equivalent scalar scale,which met theoretical expectations.Fifth,China’s "post-90s" employees’ sense of work meaning is low. |
