This paper focuses on the first lithographic pictorial in the Guangdong region during the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China,the Current Affairs Pictorial.By employing the "interrelating text and image" research method and connecting with local chronicles,oral history,biographies,and other historical materials,the paper provides a comprehensive organization and study of the pictorial’s news,commentary,and local literature sections,and clarifies the regionally and historically distinctive women’s liberation movement within.The Current Affairs Pictorial’s advocacy for women’s liberation and exploration of related issues present the rich aspects of the women’s liberation movement during the late Qing and early Republic periods.This paper aims to examine the perspective on women in the Current Affairs Pictorial and the literary works with female themes published in the magazine,showcasing the local women’s movement practices in education,politics,and marriage at that time.It investigates how literature participated in the movement,constructing multiple imaginations and images of the new women during the late Qing and early Republic periods.By studying the Current Affairs Pictorial,the paper seeks to unearth the unique regional experience of the women’s liberation movement in Guangdong during that time,enrich and refine the voices of women’s liberation,and shed light on the women’s liberation movement in the 21 st century while focusing on the development of women’s well-being.
