Research On The Development Of Japanese New Media Art From The 1950s To The Present

The historical development of new media art is not very long,but it has distinct characteristics of the times.New media art develops gradually with the birth of new scientific and technological inventions.In the 1950 s,Japanese artists,represented by "experimental workshops",began to make media art by using newly invented recording equipment and new storage media such as magnetic tape.This is the front end of the development of new media art in Japan.The creative and technological spirit of the 1950 s encouraged later artists and technical experimenters to use mixed media,computer graphics and virtual interaction.The 1960 s was the era of "materialistic" art.The establishment of "C.T.G" technical group in 1966 marked that computer graphics technology was squarely applied to artistic creation.The 1970 s was the golden age of industrialization in Japan,which also led to the creation of art in Japan.In the late 1970 s,the Japanese new media art center was gradually built.The media of artists’ creation is gradually transitioning to computer and electronic image.In the 1980 s,Japanese computer art continued to develop,and its advanced robotics gained worldwide attention when it was exhibited at the Tsukuba International Science and Technology Fair.The 1990 s,the era of computer popularization,technology and images.From 2000 to now,the new media art has moved towards the system of digitization,information and network.With the promulgation of policies and the development of commerce,digital art galleries,public museums and interactive performances and dramas have all developed in a rich way.Japanese art derives from its developed seiko manufacturing industry.The fundamental reason why the works of new media art are different from those of other countries lies in its national spirit and social consciousness.The Japanese national spirit determines their emphasis on the spirit of science and technology and the rationality of tools.Second,in the opinion of some western scholars,the creation of Japanese new media art on the one hand reflects its behavior of confronting Western consciousness,and on the other hand reflects the phenomenon that it cannot get rid of the western evaluation system.Today,Japanese media art is combining with exhibitions,competitions,architecture and commerce to create a new face of society,while continuing new discoveries in virtual technology,robotics and video technology.Through a linear review of the development trend and technological evolution of Japanese digital media art from mixed media experiment,media innovation to new media art,the author sorted out the professional development clearly.By integrating the phenomena of artists and art groups,the capital behavior of western capital interfering in art museums and art institutions,the government’s policy support and development orientation,and history,and taking the development characteristics of dividing era as the research results,I intend to paint and write a relatively clear picture.With the help of historical research on Japanese digital media art,this paper hopes to perceive,look at and view Japanese art works more deeply and comprehensively.
