| Guided by the variational translation theory,this report practices English translation examples of tourism website texts in the Chengde area.Specifically,the report explores the language characteristics of tourism texts,applies the theoretical principles and specific translation methods of tourism translation to the text,and analyzes these translation examples through language,cultural,and demand contradictions.By doing so,the report aims to convey tourism information correctly,promote cultural communication,and even facilitate the economic development of the tourist destination.Through the translation practice and analysis,this paper finds that Chinese tourism texts are characterized by rich culture-loaded words,long and descriptive sentences,and incoherent structure;there are primary differences in logic and styles between Chinese and English tourism texts.Therefore,guided by the variational translation theory,and typically the three contradictions,the translation report summarizes the following findings: for the cultural contradiction,the cultural value should be preserved,and the deep cultural content should be displayed throughout the translated text;for the language contradiction,the translated text should be edited so that the logic and language style of the original language conforms to that of the target language;for the demand contradiction,catering to the needs of tourists,the selection of the translated content should be fit and precise,avoiding redundant expressions.With these summarized translation principles,the selected cases are analyzed.The report adopts and applies four specific translation methods to the selected translated text,including annotated translation,edited translation,condensed translation,and transcomment.The annotated translation,for the cultural contradiction,is used to explain Chinese-specific vocabulary and sentences in tourism texts and entail the cultural connotation of the original text;the edited translation,for the language contradiction,is used to edit the text structure so that its style is more in line with target language characteristics and logic;the condensed translation and transcomment,for the demand contradiction,are used to retain the primary information of the original text and enable the translator to give full play to his subjective initiative and add his suggestions on the basis of translation to provide a further reference for tourists.Through this translation practice,the author has accumulated the translation experience of tourism translation under the variational translation theory and the three contradictions. |
