Interpreter’s Omission From An Eco-translatology Perspective: A Case Study Of Huawei 2021 Annual Report Press Conference

In recent years,with the gradual enhancement of China’s scientific and technological strength,China’s high-tech industries and companies are also becoming bigger and stronger.Huawei is one example.As a leading company in the communications industry,Huawei’s popularity abroad has also increased.Therefore,as an international company,the annual press conference of Huawei needs to be bilingual in Chinese and English to satisfy the attention of international users.Therefore,an interpreter should be included in a press conference to reach the transformation from the source language to the target language.This thesis takes the interpretation of the 2021 Huawei Annual Report Conference as a corpus and studies how an interpreter can use the strategy of omission to successfully deliver the interpretation from Chinese to English.The author uses three-dimensional transformation from Eco-translatology to analyze how the interpreter reached transformation in the three dimensions with omission.In this thesis,examples are listed to discuss why the interpreter chose omission and the effects of it.The author also discusses what MTI students or beginners can learn from this interpretation.To encapsulate,the author finds that omission can be used for an interpreter to carry out a professional interpretation.From the perspective of the language dimension,an interpreter can use omit minor details,repetitive and category words and words with overlapping meanings.In the cultural dimension,an interpreter can use omission when the audience is aware of the role of terms.In addition,though it is not recommended,an interpreter can use omission when he or she lacks enough cultural reserve.Besides,it is also worth mentioning that omission cannot be used randomly.For example,when there is no parallel expression in the target language,an interpreter needs to use another better strategy.Finally,from the perspective of the communicative dimension,omission can be used to make room for possible supplementary explanations.Terms for internal communication can also be omitted to avoid confusion.The thesis believes that learners and MTI students can learn from the interpretation of the 2021 Huawei Annual Report Conference and make full use of omission as an interpreting strategy to carry out transformations in the language,cultural and communicative dimensions.
