(1) Background and significanceChina, abundant in coal resources, has become the most amount of coal production and consumption country in the world. Coal will remain the major source of energy resource in quite a long time. The key problem for coal industry development is related to the safety of production; however, the gas hazard was the most serious impediment to coal mine safety and high effective production.The deformed coal controls the occurrence and the handling of gas disaster. The features of the deformed coal, such as low intensity, high adsorption, and quick desorption and low permeability, are the root causes why coal-gas outburst can take place, the amount of gas emission from coal seam cannot be predicted accurately, and it is difficult to drain the gas on the ground in deformed coal zone. Therefore, study on the origin, the distribution, the structure and the property of deformed coal will be the foresightedness of predicting the coal-gas outburst risky region and the amount of the gas emission, the premise of controlling gas hazards, and the basis of exploiting coal seam methane.The deformed coal is a bridge of study on matter variation with pressure in the Earth. It has not been formed a certain theory system which can explain how the pressure influences the Earth matter though the pressure is the most fundamental factor, what is the relation among the pressure, the temperature...
