In this dissertation, ultra thin films, composite particles and hollow spheres based on the diazonium (or diazo-sulfonate) containing polymers have been fabricated through layer-by-layer self-assembly. The films or the shells of the composite particles can be crosslinked with irradiation of UV light or heating. As a result the stability of the films or the shells towards polar solvents was improved dramatically.Besides, the crosslinkable ultra-thin films and hollow spheres were fabricated from CdTe nanoparticles capped with mercapto-propanoic acid and poly (allyl amine hydrochloride). In the presence of 1-Ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl-aminopropyl) carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC), the crosslinked films and hollow spheres which possessed photo-luminescent property, were prepared. At last the hollow Ag spheres were synthesized with electroless Ag deposition technique using hollow sphere made from polyelectrolytes as the micro-reactor. The morphology and the structure of the Ag hollow spheres can be adjusted through the charge of the polyelectrolyte shell. The main results of this dissertation can be listed as follows:1. Self-assembly(SA) ultra thin films based on diazoresin (DR) and compounds containing hydroxy phenol groups, including phenol-formaldehyde resin, hydroxy calixarene and tetra-hydroxyphenyl porphyrin have been fabricated via H-bond interaction. Under UV irradiation, the H-bond will convert to covalent bond followed with the decomposition of the diazonium groups. The covalent attached films can stand the etching against polar solvents.2. Poly(4-diazonium-styrene) and Poly(4-diazonium styrene-co-4-vinyl pyridine), as well as their diazo-sulfonate derivates have been synthesized and were used as crosslinking agent to obtain the covalent attached ultra-thin films. A series of self-assembly films via different driven forces were built up successfully and investigated carefully.3. Many covalent-attached functional ultra thin films have been fabricated and were used in the photoelectron conversion studies. The functional molecules contain...
