Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a unique class of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) constituted by hundreds of individual substances. These compounds contain two or more fused aromatic rings made up of carbon and hydrogen atoms. PAHs have been of environmental concern because of their strongly recalcitrant degradability and the carcinogenic, mutagenic and tumorigenic properties of certain of them. Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is ubiquitous in soil and aqueous environment, and the most active component in terrestrial and water ecosystem. It can facilitate the mobility of contaminants in soil and water. Study on the relationship between DOM and PAHs can help us understand the transferring mechanism of PAHs on the interface between plant root and soil, soil and water. It can also help to prevent and control contaminating plant, surface water and groundwater by PAHs, and enhance bioremediation in soils contaminated by PAHs. Consequently, this study was carried out to explore the influence of DOM derived from pig manure, green manure and sewage sludge on environmental behavior of PAHs and the associated mechanisms.Batch experiments were conducted to explore the effect of DOM on Phe sorption onto soils and desorption from soils. The results indicated that DOM could markedly constrain sorption of Phe onto soils, and enhance greatly desorption of Phe from soils. There was a good negative correlation between the amount of Phe sorbed onto soils and theconcentration of DOM (rDOM derived from pig manure=-0.9888** , rDOM from sewagesludge=-0.9826**,rTween-80= -0.9743**,rDOM from green manure=-0.9905**). The sequence that DOM inhibited Phe sorption onto soils and enhanced desorption of Phe from soils was DOM derived from pig manure > DOM from sewage sludge > DOM from green manure. The inhibited degree of Phe sorbed onto soils by original DOM was stronger than that by DOM...
