Karst rocky desertification is a serious problem in Chinese karst regions. Currently, researchers in this field mainly focused on its macroscopically investigation and status description, consequently only provide a wholly mode of restoration and taming. But there is a significant difference in the deterioration of karst rocky desertification among karst regions, then, when aiming either to find the patterns of desertification occurrences or a mode of general applicability in taming the problem, it is necessary to reduce the spatial scope and take their backgrounds into account in researches. The author thoroughly analyzed the ecological differential patterns in karst desertification cases under different natural conditions, ranging from a scale of total Guizhou province to catchments, using a landscape ecological method which combined with techniques used in remote sensing and geographic information system. Hence a different policy of ecologically taming catchments in karst regions suggested. The following conclusions are suggested in this paper.(1) There are spatial territorial differences within landscapes in Guizhou province. In detail, total landscapes are degrading, regionally, best ecological environments occurred in the east and north part of the province, while worse cases in western and south-western part; as to their types, there are more differences among forest lands and less among grass lands. The landscapes in the province are featured as their instability, fluctuations in time-scale, and complex variation among different types, totally degradation of the value of ecosystem services, ecological devaluation as a whole and the worsening of ecological deterioration in some cases.(2) Those consistent homogenous carbonate rocks regions in the province are characterized by shrub lands being predominant landscapes while forest lands and grasslands in an inferior position. Among theses landscapes, the shapes of patches are generally regular and small in area and the fragmentation of patches are more obvious in those human disturbed regions. Comparing with homogenous dolomites regions,...
