Blast furnace ironmaking process is an important and essential part of the metallurgical industry in the world and a chief means of producing hot metal. There are multi-phase co-existing, physical and chemical phenomena interleaving in blast furnace. The production environment of blast furnace is very bad, and the inner of furnace can't be observed easily. Now most of the modern blast furnaces are usually equipped with automatic systems which use failure predication model to evaluate and control the production effectively. But those automatic systems still have many limitations: first of all, they are lack of predicting function, weak in guiding ironmaking process and dependent on experiential information; secondly, their analysis of the inner state of furnace and the multi-phase coupled relationships is rough, without the details and mechanism clarified; thirdly, they offer less production information which doesn't reflect the state of blast furnaces and is understood hardly for the operators; finally, they lack the proper integrated approach to analyze that process and can not benefit the research of the real mechanism. Apparently, with the improvement of blast furnace inspection level and intensive study of the mechanism of complex phenomena, we should abandon the excessively experience-dependent traditional mode to direct blast furnace production, and create the simulation system for blast furnace process, which could possess off-line predicting function, be able to analyze furnace state in detail, and offer rich production information of furnace. No doubt, applying the simulation technology and method will be of very academic and realistic importance for solving the difficulties induced by blast furnace enlargement, improving ironmaking techniques and promoting the great-leap-forward development of metallurgical industry.This article is supported by Shandong Province Science & Technology Development Plan(No.012050107) in order to solve the difficulties induced by blast furnace enlargement and meet the sustainable development challenge of the metallurgical industry.
