The chromatographic fingerprints of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), including single TCM and formula, represented appropriately the "chemical integrities" of TCM. The fingerprint technique brought the quality controll, authentication and identification of TCM from the current method, where one or a few markers or pharmacologically active components in TCM were employed for evaluating the quality and authenticity of TCM, to the new way where most of the phytochemical constituents of TCM were determined and analyzed comprehensively. Aiming two problems in chromatographic fingerprint research of TCM injection, the qualitative analysis of components in TCM and its injection and the correlation between fingerprint and efficacy, the following five works were done with hyphenated chromatographic instruments and chemometric approaches: the fingerprint study of volatile constitutes and non-volatile constitutes; the fingerprint study of constitute change with drying and season; the study of the correlation between the constitutes of the herb and those of the injecttion; the study of the correlation between fingerprint and anti-inflammatory effect; the study of standard fingerprint establishment of Houttuynia cordata injection.1. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of volatile and non-volatile components in Houttuynia cordata was done with hyphenated GC-MS and HPLC-DAD methods (chapter 2 and chapter 3). Fingerprint coupled with chemometrics resolution heuristic evolving latent projections (HELP) was proposed as a tool for identifying and quantifying the volatile components during the plant growth period. HPLC-DAD was employed...
