The paper investigates the hot rolling control system. Modeling and optimization of the hot rolling control system is the key point of the research. Building up the screw-down system models for rough mill and the tension control system models for finish mill. It is successful in transplanting the screw-down system models for rough mill to the RT-LAB platform, and linking the process control system and displaying system, and carrying out distributed real-time simulation of the rough rolling system. At the same time the technique of immune PID and swarm optimization applies to hydraulic width control to improve the ability of the hydraulic width control system. The technique of adaptive interaction and iterative feedback tuning applies to the DC main driver control to improve the ability of main driver system of finish mill. The results show that the performance of hydraulic width control system and DC main driver system all get the further improvement. In the aspects of optimization of shearing, some image processing ways, such as dynamic threshold value, morphologic filter and so on apply to strip head and tail image processing. Building up and training the neural network of identification of strip head and tail, we have made a set of practical system of identification of strip head and tail.This topic according to the characteristics of the equipment and the method of modeling based on theory, builds up the system model of width control and height control for rough mill and tension control for finish mill. The models of width control for rough mill includes hydraulic system and edger stand. The models of tension control for finish mill includes DC main driver system, AC main driver system and electric looper. All parameters of model are acquired according to the spot data and the theory calculation, and are verified by a great deal of data. The high reliability is the base of numerical simulation for hot rolling and optimizing research.The distributed real-time simulation is one of difficult problems of the simulation. The topic is successful in transplanting rough rolling models to the RT-LAB platform, building up the synchronous and asynchronous communication inside or outside of models, composing the simulation cluster through internet and fire wire, making the band steel, process computer, the displaying computer, the basic automation control system connected together successfully, really carrying out real-time simulation of rough mill.The core equipment of width control system for rough mill is the hydraulic width control system. For improving the width control ability, we have to improve the control ability of hydraulic width control system.
