Under the background of the Ningbo Steel 1780mm hot strip mill project, study the structure and function of the control system and platform, mathematical models, load distribution methods and schedule calculation methods, automatic width control methods for rough stands, build the process control system for rough stands, develop the related on-line application software, some of them put into on site and the results were satisfaction. The main works and results are as followed:(1) On the HDP system platform, take the plant's specific equipments configuration and technology into account, design rough rolling process control system, and determine the content of set-up calculation, learn function and design the table of hierarchy, etc.(2) Analyze different kinds of mathematical models in rough rolling zone, such as temperature models, roll load models, width models, determine their appropriate forms for rough rolling process control, and perform models' learning with exponential smoothing method.(3) By evaluating the characteristics of traditional load distribution methods and schedule calculation methods, a novel numerical computation method named target thickness method is used to calculate rolling schedule, a compound equal load distribution method is used to distribute rolling load of rough stands. Prove this method's rationality pass the actual application in the locale.(4) Apply various automatic width control methods such as short stroke control, dynamic set-up, and so on. According as Ningbo Steel hot strip mill project, emphases introduce the actual application of head and tail short stroke control in the locale, get the nicer application effect.(5) Analyze the actual application of rough rolling schedule in the locale, and prove temperature,roll load and width models' efficiency with actual data.The results indicate that this process control models'for rough stands get the nicer application effect.The research results in the thesis have strong practicability for hot strip mill on-line process control for rough stands. Developed rough rolling process control models was applied successfully in the Ningbo Steel 1780mm hot strip mill project and it is positive to accelerate the development and research of process control models for rough stands in our country.
