Bisphenol A type novolac epoxy resin (bis-ANER) is a high-functionality solid polymeric epoxy resin, with excellent properties in terms of thermal stability, and it can be used as the matrix for high performance fiber-reinforced composites in the aerospace industry and as encapsulant for electronic components.In this work, bis-ANER was synthesized from bisphenol-A and formaldehyde, the resulted novolac was epoxidied to generate an epoxy resin. The chemical structures of bis-ANER were confirmed by ~1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and infrared spectroscopy, the molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution were determined by gel permeation chromatograph. The products were mainly consisted of trimers and dimmers.The structure changes during the isothermal curing reaction of bis-ANER with 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (DDS), 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl methane (DDM) and methylhexahydrophthalic...
