The advance of modern science and technology puts forward the higher requirement to the metal materials, and promotes research to the metal matrix composites. Carbon fiber reinforced aluminum matrix composites are cared in a lot of fields, due to their high specific properties such as low density, high specific strength and rigidity, good abradability and heat conductivity and preserving high strength and dimensional stability at high temperature.In order to improve the wetting, bonding properties and roliability of carbon fibers reinforced aluminum matrix composites, studies were taken on the fabrication technique, including copper plating on carbon fibers and stir-founding technique, and related theories of staple carbon fibers reinforced aluminum matrix composites. The work is to offer basis technology to manufacture skin materials used for aircrafts.Pretreatment was firstly carried out to improve the hydrophobic property and nonreactivity of carbon fibers. And the results indicate that burning at high temperature and oxygenation in (NH4)2S2O8 greatly improved hydrophobic property and surface roughness of the fibers. Take SnCl2 as sensitizing agent and AgNO3 as active agent can form a thin layer of catalyst activator Ag, so that deposit copper on carbon fibers could carry out.An electroless plating process was performed first to deposit copper on carbon fibers after pretreatment, and then a electroplating method was used to increased the coating to a certain thickness. And the wetting property between carbon fibers and aluminum was greatly improved. Studies on the deposition rate, stability of the solution, temperature and contents of reducing agent, complexing agents and stabilizing agents were performed to determine the suitable technological parameters during the electroless process. A new electroless plating method using copper sulfate solution, AgNO3 as active agent, HCHO as reducing agent, EDTA and potassium sodium tartrate as complex agents, and 2,2'-bipyridyl and K4Fe (CN)6 · 3H2O as additive agents to gain copper coating on carbon fibers was adopted.
