Viewing from recent years' heavy casualties at home and abroad, most of which are closely connected with human behavior and evacuation time, so how to effectively prevent and reduce fire and casualties of other sudden accidents, especially prevention from fire accidents of mass injuries and death has become the most important issue in the work of public security at home and abroad at present. So far the investigation and experimental research aiming at fire mentality and behavior of Chinese are few, so that building performance-based fire safety design in China has to adopt foreign data for reference.The paper comprehensively applies such theories and methods as safety science and psychology, behavior, sociology, etc., carries out study on law of human behavior and evacuation time when buildings are on fire through questionnaire and evacuation drill, and provides basis for fire emergency evacuation plan for personnel and building performance-based fire safety design.Taking students under university education as targets, the questionnaire has been organized three times successively, 3444 valid questionnaires have been withdrawn, and nearly one million investigation data have been obtained. The fire emergency evacuation drill has been carried out twice, involving more than 4200 persons under participation. More than 2300 records of individual evacuation movement time have been measured, and a large number of data and materials at the evacuation site have been collected. They are unprecedented in China both on the quantity of questionnaires and scale of drill, and the quantity and reliability of information acquired. On the basis of which, the paper makes analysis and research on the law of mentality and behavior of human when the buildings are on fire by statistical analysis methods such as Binary Logistic Regression, Polytomous Logistic Regression, Multinomial Logistic Regression, Two Independent Samples T Test, One-way Analysis of Variance, Multiple Linear Regression, and so on.Through research It is found that the longer one stays from the safe destination, the lower cognition level one owns; the mentality of obeying others are stronger among personnel of female and single-parent family and the time for evacuation decision takes longer; under the circumstances of same evacuation distance, female, people under 18 years old, emotionalism, people with lower cognition level take more...
