Polymer based composites combined the good process property, electrical insulation and toughness of polymer with the properties of inorganic materials, such as high module, good dimension stability. The properties of composites were extremely determined by the size of dispersion dimension and the interfacial action among the components. To increase the interfacial action among the components in the composites, the dispersion dimension which would be nanometer level or molecule level was desired, so the hybrids would be prepared. The properties of hybrids were improved greatly for the fine dispersion structure and strong interfacial interaction, while they owned some new special properties.Long chain quaternary ammonium and other organic cations could be intercalated montmorillonite through cation exchange reaction. The basis spacing of montmorillonite was swollen with the organic cation, the environment between the layers had been changed, so the montmorillonite modified with long chain organic cation could absorb oil. It was found that intercalated organic cation increased with the increase of the amount of quaternary ammonium. According to the length of quaternary ammonium cation and the height of galley between montmorillonite layer, it could be determined that quaternary ammonium cation arranged tipsily between layers. With the increase of the amount of quaternary ammonium, the slope angle was from 11.7 to 73.2° .Polymer/montmorillonite hybrids, such as PS, PMMA, PEO, PA6, BR and SBR, were prepared through in-situ polymerization, solution intercalation and melting intercalation. Based on those researches, a new method named "latex blending and coagulating" was firstly put forward. Montmorillonite could be dispersed uniformly in water for the hydration of the cation between the layers. The layers could be separated from each other to form a colloid and the layer would penetrate with the latex particle. Some special latex such as MMA-DM, St-DM coploymer and SBPR were prepared and selected by means of molecule design. When the latex blended with the montmorillonite -water dispersion, a suspension could be formed. It could be...
