Throughout the world, the control of environment pollution has become one of the most important problems to be solved as soon as possible. So far as chemical engineering is concerned, the problem is how to minimize the waste emission, which is technologically determined mainly by the pattern of reactor and separator, the structure of technological process and key designing parameters. Obviously, those should be considered in the initial designing period to avoid later remaking difficulties. In recent ten years, some valuable work has been achieved in the study of process synthesis based on waste minimization. However, owing to the complexity of the problem, much work still need to be done in theoretic and application. This paper represents a new strategy for solving this problem and provides a theoretical base for clean chemical process design based on the following main works: With the emphasis on reactor subsystem of the reaction/separation system and the complex chemical reactions constrained under the conditions of steady state, isothermal and constant volume, applying the methods of process decomposition and target decomposition, the effects of reaction, mixing, separation and key designing parameters on the process system are deeply explored in two and three-dimensional concentration spaces. Also, the relationships between outlet parameters of reactor and the waste produced are studied. The ideas of this paper are as follows:1. A new method is proposed for waste minimization of reactor network system according to the basic principles of attainable region method used in reactor network synthesis. By this method, it is meant that, the targeting of the waste minimization is divided into selectivity, relative selectivity and instant selectivity maximization. Based on those different objective functions, the optimization calculation is carried out directly in the convex region formed by arbitrary reaction and mixing. Then CSTR equation and DSR equation in two and three-dimensional spaces are thus attained. Also by this method, dealing...
