The nanoparticles present many particular physical and chemical properties and have wide application potential due to their surface effect, volume effect, quantum size effect and macroquantum tunnel effect. Self-assembled technology is a process that molecules form ordered films spontaneously on the solid surface by chemical bonds. The self-assembled films can protect metals from corrosion and decrease friction because of their dense and stable structures. The research of self-assembling ordered structures of nanoparticles has attracted wide attention because the self-assembled films show sound protection effect toward the metal surface. The self-assembled films formed by nanoparticles have particular properties because they have the two characters of both self-assembled films and nanoparticles.Nano composite coatings are obtained by adding nanoparticles to the electroless plating solutions. The nanoparticles are responsible for improving the properties of the coating, such as hardness, toughness, corrosion inhibition, wear resistance and oxidation resistance at high temperature.Steel is a widely used metal with extensive applications in industries and the study of its corrosion inhibition is important due to its easy corrosive trend. The study of self-assembled films on the gold surface is more extensive than on the steel at present. So it is an important work to form compact and stable films on the steel, including selecting proper self-assembled substances, exploring effective self-assembled methods, testing the inhibition efficiencies of the self-assembled films and investigating its inhibition mechanism.Quantum chemical calculation is usually used to study the correlations between the inhibition abilities and molecular structures of the inhibitors.
