The new material technology is the important shoring of the modern society advancement, which has been paid more attention by the primary industry countries. The composite made of advanced fibre and matrix with high-properties has been used widely in the industrial field and daily life.Using the expert system to develop new materials, it can make the developing duration shorter, the human resources and materials resources saved, the development more reliable by the computer of high velocity and great capacity. The composite is designed through the theory and calculation to predict component, structure and properties of the new material, or order the composite with specific properties through the theory design. Consequently, the best preparation method is designed according to the actual request. On the basis of the composite knowledge database, build up the composite design expert system, and according to the evaluation project of the experiment results, which is the effective design method of new material and has the irreplaceable predominance.This paper collected, summarized and analyzed systematically a great deal of expert knowledge. Adopting the advanced theory, experience and rule of composite design, expert system development tools VP-EXPERT and other procedure software are used to develop and build up a prototype of composite design expert system and evaluation system. It mainly includes a web browser, a database server, an application server and an evaluation system.The composite design includes material design, structural design and technological design and so on. The whole design process involves a lot of knowledge and experience in the field of composite design. Because of our knowledge and experience obtained is limited at present, the mechanics properties of the composite is mainly designed and developed. The system adopts a kind of more practical engineering mechanics model and can carry on the simple design of the composite with a certain properties. The design of fiber-reinforced polyer matrix composites with laminate structure is emphasizedly investigated.This system applies the technology of expert system and network technology to the composite design. It can imitate the composite design experts to finish some design plan of some materials and several typical components. The rich database and repository can store the data, theory and experience of the composite design. The knowledge of the composite is expressed adopting advanced database technology and reasoning is adopted fuzzy and logic uncertain reasoning. The reasoning process is realized with the independent reasoning machine. It is mutual to realize the outside file. It avoids the design blindness and help the designer improve working efficiency. Through the expert system, the design project can be evaluated by the credible flat.At the same time the system provides the collected and essential site of the expert knowledge. The multi-user cooperation design, multi-expert knowledge offer, the exchange of information and discussion of the design plan are carried out to solve the key difficult problems of the composite design. Regarding information and network technology as support, resources optimization and knowledge shares the goal, and rational structure and the best properties of the composite as the purpose, the exchange of design information and discussion of the design plan of composite is carried out to solve the practical problems in the composite design, finish the new-type composite and design the task in coordination. The system and the function will become more perfect and strengthened.The realization of this system procedure adopts advanced database technology and network technology. The debugging, perfection, maintenance of the whole system are convenient and have good human-computer interaction interfaces.A prototype of composite design expert system and evaluation system based on network has been set up. It has lightened the designer's mental labor, reduced the unnecessary experiment, and improved working efficiency. Thus this expert system has important use value.
