Compared to traditional Manual Transmission (MT) and widely used Automatic Transmission (AT), Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT) has some advantages such as low cost, high efficiency, easy to use, good comfort and better fuel economy. And the AMT can be manufactured by manual transmission product line with low equipment investment. The AMT has attracted increasing interesting from automotive researches, and the vehicles equipped AMT are spreading in recent years, especially in Europe, Japan and China. The development of the control strategy for the AMT is the key technology of the AMT research. It is esay and fast to compare the control strategy of the AMT by modeling and simulation of the AMT. Modelica is a non-proprietary, object-oriented, equation based language to conveniently model complex physical systems containing. This paper presents the modeling and simulation of an AMT based on modelica language and mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and thermal libraries, etc. The modeling and simulation were carried out by MWorks. This paper presents a detailed AMT model composed of various components from multi-domains like mechanical systems (clutch, gear pair, synchronizer, etc.), pneumatic actuation systems (clutch actuation system, gear select actuation system, gear shift actuation system, etc.). Various components and subsystem models, such as the engine, AMT, wheels, etc., are integrated into an overall vehicle system model according to the transmission power flow and control logic. The co-simulaion with the control strategy which was developed under Matlab/Simulink was carried out to study the performance of the AMT, such as start-up, gearshift, brake, etc.The testbench of the clutch was introduced in this paper. The experiment of clutch was carried out to study the performance of the clutch actuator. The simulation results and the experiment data fit very well, and demonstrated the correctness of the model. The test truck was developed to study the performance of the vehicle. The experiment shows that the performance of the Dongfeng AMT has catched up with the advanced world levels.
