The pumping system is a typical multi-domain system of a concrete pump truck. Thedesign and development process of pumping system is usually very complex, consideringthe coupling of control system, mechanical system, hydraulic system, etc. Simulationtechnology is widely used because using simulation could reduce research costs, shorterdevelopment cycles. Modelica language, developed in recent years, is a multi-domainunified modeling and simulation language, which has several features and advantages inmodeling and simulation of multi-field coupling system. To modeling and simulating thepumping system of a concrete pump truck based on Modelica, there are several work to bedone.Firstly, the main features of Modelica and the usage of MWorks platform is studied,the main modeling theory of Modelica is analysed. Combined with the workflow ofMWorks platform, instructed by the modular modeling theory, the structure and workingprinciple of the pumping system is studied, then the pumping system is decomposed intomechanical subsystem, hydraulic subsystem, control subsystem and load subsystem.Secondly, a specialized model library of the pumping system is developed, using theMWorks platform based on Modelica language. The library includes five sub-libraries,which are mechanical library, hydraulic library, control library, load library and examplelibrary. During the five sub-libraries, the hydraulic library is more detailed, which coveringthe hydraulic interface unit, the hydraulic damping unit, the liquid capacity unit,accumulator, check valve, valve, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic pumps and other basiccomponents of the hydraulic system and some specific components of the pumpingsystem.This library can be easily used to modeling pumping systems of different types,which provides a great convenience for the design and modification of the pumpingsystem.Finally, a pumping system model is build based on the pumping system library. Thecorrectness and accuracy of the model is verified by comparing the results of some keyparameters of the pumping system between the simulation and the experiment. Then asimulation under a specific condition is carried out, which analyses the dynamic characteristics of the pressure fluctuations of the system. Due to the simulation, severalproblems of the system is pointed out, and some improvement suggestion is given.
