High-power high performance AC drive systems are always the attractive research issue in power electronic and power drive field. By combining the researches of latest high power semiconductor devices, high performance strategies and multi-level converter topologies, the high power AC drives with excellent performances could be achieved, and this approach is considered as an effective solution and development direction in current state to handle high-power AC drives.This dissertation took high power three-level synchronous motor drive system as research objective and mainly focused on the researches of PWM modulation algorithm, neutral-point balance control, and narrow pulse compensation considering dead time effect for three-level converter, virtual flux control for PWM rectifier, hybrid airgap flux observer for synchronous motor. In order to obtain a better performance for the drive system, the busbar architectural design and full digital controller design were also introduced in this dissertation.All the works in this dissertation have been verified by plenty of simulation and Experiments. The designed three-level synchronous motor drive system has been serving for mine hoist since sep. 2009 and operates well in the field.
