As a popular method of production planning management and inventory control, MRPII (Manufacturing Resource Planning) plays an important role in CIMS (Computer Integrated Manufacturing System). With the development of Internet technology, supply chain management and e-Commerce technologies are integrated in MRPII to construct the foundation of ERP (Enterprise Resources Planning) system. Although MRPII/ERP software support enterprise production process management, such as business planning, material requirement planning, purchase planning, capacity planning and final assembly scheduling, they still can hardly resolve all the problems in the job shop production management of some Chinese firms. And more, due to varying backgrounds and the inherent complexity of the fabrication processes of large-scale mechatronic devices under changing markets, it is very difficulty to implement MRPII/ERP in the production management under some machining job shop environments. As well known, job shop scheduling problem is one of difficult and important problem in machining shop floor, and it is also a strong NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem from mathematical viewpoint. Research on effective job shop scheduling method is always an important and valuable work.The author participated in the project of implementing CIMS in DFEM (Dong-Fang Electrical Machinery Company Ltd.) during past several years. In order to improve the efficiency, realize automatic management of production activity, and reduce the cost of row materials, the welding workshop in DFEM, which is charged with the crucial process of cutting blanks from stock, plans to reconstruct the mode of its production management and' The research work is supported by the project of National 863 Hi-Tech Plan/CIMS Application Engineering under Grants No. 863-511-9702-6123.optimize its production process. According to requirements of building the production scheduling and management information system of cutting stock production activity, this paper puts forward a solution scheme for reconstruction of the mode of production activity management of welding workshop, and technical ideas for optimizing blank nesting plan. The theories of agile workshop production activity scheduling and developing method of management system based on multi-agent technology are researched in this paper. At the same time, the author has successfully developed two specific application software system: welding workshop production scheduling (CutPS) and computer aided nesting plan (NestingCAD) integrated with CutPS, which can also offer a valuable suggestion about optimal nesting planning for large numbers of blanks.The main conclusions with creative ideas of the paper are as following:1. According to the characters of manufacturing enterprises in China, this paper deals with a general model of Agile Workshop Production Scheduling (AWPS) system based on cooperative work principle of multi-agent system. The basic technical idea of AWPS is coincident with MES (Manufacturing Execution System) and CMS (Cellular Manufacturing System).2. Based on investigation of the existing workflow process and production management mode of welding workshop in DFEM, The author presents an operative mechanism of workflow process and functional model of job shop production scheduling system. A system architecture and operative mechanism between agents of CutPS based on the technical ideas of AWPS and multi-agent approaches are also designed.3. Studying on optimal methods for two-dimension cutting stock problems, the paper presents a mathematical model and implementing strategy how to construct optimal algorithm of this problem.4. By the research of efficiency and difficulty of some approximation algorithms for two-dimensional cutting stock problem, and an analysis of the feasibility and requirement about the use of computational intelligence (CI), the paper describes the basic technical ideas how to construct Cl-based algorithm model for the problem.5.
