With the rapid development of modern power system, the electric network also exposes some aspects of its fragility. The secure and economic operation of modern power system is facing a new challenge. It is one of the urgent problems to be solved to have an effective control over the power flow of the electric transmission network.The establishment for the concept of Flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) and the quick development of FACTS devices bring a new control freedom on power flows of electric network. It is necessary to have an advance, reliable and effective power flow control method suitable with these powerful FACTS devices. It is a prospective direction for further research work to solve the FACTS based power flow control problem by means of optimal power flow method. Some new work has done by some researchers in this field. But it has not come into a system. The analysis and application of FACTS control on power flow under market environment are just carrying out.In this thesis, focusing on the optimal power flow control problem based on FACTS devices, a thorough and systematic research is made on the FACTS model, FACTS regulation pattern, power flow control algorithm and the related issues. An emphasis analysis and discussion is made on the optimal power flow control problems based on FACTS related with the market issues.The main content is as follows:The model of FACTS devices in the optimal power flow control is researched. Based on power injection model, detail analysis is made on the influence of FACTS control to the optimal equations of power system. The control parameters and regulation pattern is set up according to the power flow control problem. A detail derivation is made on the equivalent injection power equation of several FACTS devices.The origin, application and development of path following interior point method are traced back and the basic theory of this algorithm is set forth. A general framework of non-linear interior point method is given for optimal power flow control problems of power system. A thorough analysis is made on the influence of FACTS control parameters to the Hessian Matrix of optimal equation. A new idea is brought forward: to take the FACTS control into consideration on the basis of existing OPF program and algorithm in the Energy Management System.The convergence performance of this optimal algorithm is analyzed by amount of calculation results. It shows a good performance to solve the optimal power flow problem with FACTS control by non-linear interior point method under the model and parameters present in the thesis.Under the market environment and based on different trade patterns, the optimal models of congestion dispatch incorporating FACTS control is set up. These optimal models can be used for the congestion problems under different operation mechanism of power market. The control method and control action of FACTS in congestion dispatch is analysised in detail. Comparison is made between the situation with FACTS and the situation without FACTS. The research results show that as an advance power flow regulation and control method, FACTS can effectively enhance the transmission capability of transmission network, relieve the transmission congestion. It is valid and practical to solve the optimal control problem of FACTS by optimal power flow method.The concept and solution method of Available Transfer Capability (ATC) is analyzed first, Then an optimal model of ATC problem include FACTS control under power system static constrains is set up. Research results show that: FACTS devices can enhance ATC capacity in an effective way and help to make full use of the existing network when ATC is limited by the transmission capacity of some individual lines. The optimal power flow method for the ATC problem can conveniently take the FACTS control into account and get their optimal control parameters.The algorithm realization of these optimal power flow problems is analyzed.
