To newly present AC/DC transmission system transfer capability calculation, the corresponding deterministic and probabilistic algorithms are proposed respectively. An available transfer capability (ATC) calculation model is presented firstly, and then an AC-DC iterative continuation power flow algorithm and a fast contingency ranking approach suitable for the AC/DC system transfer capability calculation are proposed. Considering the uncertainties of power systems, a novel approach named Monte Carlo-FD comprehensive method is proposed to calculate and assess ATC of the AC/DC transmission systems. A series of ATC assessment indices are also defined to evaluate ATC. The algorithms based on MATLAB6.5 are developed. The modified IEEE 14-bus test system is used to verify the presented approaches. This research has theoretical and practical guiding significance for the AC/DC transmission system planning, selection of connection mode and reliable operation.
