Along with the implementation of Three-Gorges Project, power transmission from West China to East China and power interchanging between South China and North China, the interconnection among areal power networks are being formed, and the nation-wide interconnection will be about to realize. In this paper to meet the exigent requirements for real-time and faster than real-time electromechanical transient simulation of interconnected power network, the research on real-time simulation algorithm for electromechanical transient process occurred in large-scale power system and its implementation by cluster parallel computation system are conducted, in this research the partitioning of power network, parallel electromechanical transient simulation algorithm, interface method of numeral model and physical equipment, real-time and synchronization control, software design and optimization, etc., are included. The main research results are as following:(1) On the basis of contour table method and by means of optimizing the contour table constructing process, a power network partitioning algorithm, suitable to coarse-grain spatial parallel electromechanical transient simulation, is presented. According to the presented method the task-partitioning module of parallel electromechanical transient simulation is developed. Comparing with original contour table method and path tree method, using the presented network auto-partitioning method the number of boundary buses can be reduced without the reduction of the degree of equality and higher parallel efficiency can also be achieved.(2) A coarse-grain spatial parallel algorithm for electromechanical transient simulation, which is suitable to PC cluster, is given, in which the communication loads and times in parallel computation are deceased by adjusting the processing mode of tie-system between sub-networks. Applying calculation methods such as localizing fault processing, constructing the dimension-reduced network equations and parallel processing the linear equation, the computation and communication loads are reduced, while the capability of processing any complex faults is ensured. A new iteration convergence judging method, which integrates the prejudgments of boundary voltages with judgments of voltages at all buses, is put forward, and so the communication times are reduced without the convergence accuracy being reduced. Through the optimizing measures such as faultlocalization, partially updating of tie-system, merging the main control module with sub-network with least scale and fault based sequence network processing, the computation and communication loads can be further decreased.(3) A unified method to process the numerical models and the interfaces of physical equipments in electromechanical transient digital simulation system is presented, and the interfaces for the connection of the simulation system with PSASP UD model, MATLAB model, physical equipment and CC-2000 EMS real-time system respectively are realized.(4) Considering the characters of electromechanical transient real-time digital simulation and the practical requirements for it, a reasonable division of functions and modules of simulation software are carried out. Through the optimization of parallel communication mode and the merging of communication messages, the overall performance of electromechanical transient simulating system is improved.Based on the research of the author, the real-time and faster than real-time electromechanical transient simulating is preliminarily realized. The simulation results of a practical interconnected system, consisting of Northeast China Power Grid, North China Power Grid, Central China Power Grid and Sichuan and Chongqing power network, show that the presented algorithms and optimized processing methods are effective and feasible.
