Sanitary landfill settlement is one of the main geotechnical engineering problemswhich landfilling involved, and also a basic and applied research . This dissertation [1]includes three parts as follows. (1) Research on the properties of fresh Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) andnew-filled sanitary landfill settlement while landfill is running. The autor firstly discusses the basic property of the fresh MSW. The findings ofinvestigation indicate that the MSW is a kind of special material and its physicalparameters are not constant. The Shearing Strengthis also a functionrelated with time. According to the typical components of MSW in Chongqing City, the authorsconfect samples for creep compressive test indoors. By means of loading respectively, aseries of testing curves are achieved. Then two kinds of creep models called HK Modeland PTH Model are established based on the Theory of Creep Model and the testing data.Model parameters are also listed in this dissertation. The fitting curves of HK Model andPTH Model are both suitable for MSW's time-dependent deformation. HK Model and PTH Model are further used in settlement research in ChongqingChangshengqiao modern sanitary landfill. The calculation indicates that both models arevoluable for capacity calculation and settlement analysis. (2) Research on the settlement after the landfill has been closed. Model experiments are conducted for settlement research of closed landfill. Theauthor observes the displacement changes of five kinds of MSW with different weight oforganic substance in the experimental models. Then Gray Model (1,1) is established forlandfill settlement forecast based on the Gray System Theory. And the degrees of greyassociation of factors influcing on the landfill settlement are also discussed in thisdissertation. (3) Research on the properties of stale waste and settlement of the stable landfillwhile building load is on. The autor samplings stale waste on a closed stable landfill in Chongqing. Then aseries of routine tests are conducted for the physical property, strength property andcompression of the stale waste. Based on the testing data, the autor conducts sitesettlement calculation by method which criterion recommended and deformation III英文摘要simulation by Finite Element Method (FEM) when land site is used for buildings. Researchon the strength and settlement of MSW is still on the beginning stage inChina at present. There are not any perfect or reasonable models and theories for landfillsettlement estimation, orpeople do not accept reasonable models and theories widely yet. Results achieved in this dissertationcan provide theoretical proofs for estimationof site capacity, design and maintenance of landfill protecting system, design of landfillexpansion and reuse of the closed landfill and can also provide technical guidances whenChangshengqiao modern sanitary landfill is running. Thus the study of this dissertationhas not only scientific value in theory but also has applicable value in engineeringextensively.
