Landfill is widely used around the world as a solid waste disposal methods. In order to accurately assess the capacity of a landfill and reduce the risk of leachate and gas collection system damage due to the differential settlement of the landfill and for the sake of landfill area reutilization (such as being ground of highways or other buildings after it is covered), it is necessary to study the compressibitity of MSW and to evaluate the settlement of landfill by a reasonable way.Based on formen studies from other reasonchers studies, this thesis focused on the following aspects.(1) According to research results from other researchers,it indicates that the ingredients of rubbish and their properties hare great effect on the compressibility of MSW. In order to study the influential factors and equationalize their effects, test were carried out to analyze the variation of compressibility of MSW with moisture content, initial void ratio.(2) Based on tests, compression index of MSW was calculated under different conditions. For engineering reference municipal solid waste modified principal compression indeice of were summarized and listed in table.(3) By adopting Multi-layer settlement method and selecting suitable compressibility paramenters for each layer, the settlement of Tianziling landfillâ…¡, HangZhou, was predicted.(4) Use non-linear FEM, selecting FEM software ABAQUS, the settlement of Tianziling landfillâ…¡was simulated as well.(5) According to the case study, suggestions were put forward to reasonablize the construction and filling process of landfill.
