A new theory and method of knowledge modeling and evolvement of product design is presented in this dissertation. The new theory and method is based on the study of innovation and reuse for design knowledge, which focuses on acquisition of design knowledge, mining of design knowledge, deriving of design knowledge and evolution of design knowledge. Furthermore, the new method was applied successfully on the modeling for some projects, and results showed the utility, flexibility and robust of the new technology.The main work of this dissertation is as follows:In chapter â… , an overview of the current situation of product design and existing design technology for design knowledge is given. Then, the merits and deficiencies of existing design method for product design knowledge are discussed. After that, the main strategy and research background of the new theory for modeling and evolvement of product design knowledge are introduced.In chapter â…¡, the basic principle of case-based knowledge acquisition of product design is given. The product design case instances encapsulate the design requirements, design tasks and design processes. Moreover, a knowledge acquisition model of design cases is developed by using the matter-element.In chapter â…¢, the theory of design knowledge discovery based on data mining is proposed. First, current technology of data mining and the relationship between product design and data mining are described. Then, realizing methods of knowledge discovery based on rough set theory were also elaborated and its application in engineering was introduced.In chapter â…£, extension method for product design knowledge is proposed. With an eye to the advantage of matter-element, a new model of product modeling is established. Based on the definitions of the matter-element model, the normativeness and reusability of product modeling are enhanced. At the end, an example of project implementation under the architecture is given to illustrate relevant enable technologies for the methods mentioned.In chapter â…¤, goodness evaluation method for product design knowledge is proposed. First, matter-element is defined to express the object-oriented production mode.
