Combined Process Of Preoxidation By Permanganate Composite And BAC For Upgrading Drinking Water Quality

The increasing pollution of drinking water source is causing serious problems in water quality. So the development of pollutants removal process characterized by high effectiveness and low cost is in urgent need in China. Enhanced conventional water treatment has the advantages of short-term investment, high treatment efficiency and easy operation. This dissertation aims at studying a novel combined process of potassium permanganate composite (PPC) preoxidation and BAC for various pollutants removal from drinking water. The performance and influencing factors of the combined process and the mechanism of PPC enhanced biofilter for pollutants removal had been investigated with various experimental technologies.The performance of combined process of PPC preoxidation and BAC was investigated. The results showed that the removal efficiency in coagulation with PPC preoxidation was better than that without PPC pretreatment and the biofiltration was better than the sand filter. The relative removal rate of algae, turbidity, COD_Mn and UV₂₅₄ increased 39.1%, 42.0%, 9.4% and 6.8% in coagulation process with PPC preoxidation and the relative removal rate of algae, turbidity, COD_Mn, UV₂₅₄, ammonia and nitrite increased 80.8%, 60.3%, 32.5%, 19.2%, 57.5% and 75.8 by BAC process, respectively.The performance of biofiler with and without PPC preoxidation was conducted. The results showed that the removal rate of pollutants in biological process was improved after PPC preoxidation and the removal rate of COD_Mn, ammonia and nitrite increased 5.4%,11.9%, 13.0% respectively compared to BAC process alone.The experiment on biofilter followed by preoxidation showed that ozone and PPC pretreatment improved the biodegradation of raw water, which enhanced the biofilm growth and bioactivity.
