Traffic signal control has the important influence on traffic flow distribution. The introduction of route guidance system accelerates the evolution of traffic flow pattern. In the traditional signal control, flux of traffic flow is regarded as exogenous, which are not influenced by signal setting, and are un-controllable variable. In the combined traffic signal control and route guidance (CTSCRG), flux of traffic flow and signal setting are endogenously generated by combined model, flux of traffic flow is controllable variables. This is the essential difference between CTSCRG and traditional signal control.The thesis is financed by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)—The study on synergetic theory and control method of urban traffic flow system, and Supported by Graduate Innovation Lab of Jilin University—Traffic flow guidance model and application based on cellular automata. The main research results are as following:(1) The essence of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is discussed. The research of CTSCRG is divided into three phases: static phase, dynamic phase, and dynamic phase under ATIS circumstance. The interaction between signal control and route choice is analyzed. The definition and mathematical description of CTSCRG are presented. The influence of signal control policy and cost function on solution uniqueness and convergence are analyzed. The previous research results are concluded. From the viewpoint of engineering applications, the assumptions of complete information traffic assignment model can not satisfy reality.(2) The factors of influencing the drivers'route choice are analyzed. The influence of guidance information type on guidance effect is analyzed. Based on cellular automata, guidance effect of speed guidance information and travel time guidance information are compared. The modeling and validation of logit route choice model are presented.(3) Based on the information, guidance system is categorized. Guidance information generation method is studied.
