Research On The Practice And Communication Of Contemporary Architecture Criticism In China

As the bridge connecting the theories and practices, Architecture Criticism is one of the core parts in Architecture, which summarizes and supervises the practices, and forms the base of the theories and history. The modern Architecture Criticism was imported, when the western Architecture was introduced to China. However, it has not yet developed a mature system, because of the lacking of attention and the restrictions of the conventional ideology. Since 1990s, various problems in Architecture field have emerged, accompanying with the huge changes in the country and the rapid constructions. In order to solve them, it is imperative to develop Architecture Criticism. This dissertation attempted to make a study on Architecture Criticism from the viewpoint of the public.The mass culture and mass communication are the most important phenomena in the contemporary cultural field of China, which have cast effects on the development of cities. Therefore, this dissertation brought forward the viewpoint basing on Information and Communication to study Architecture Criticism. One emphasis was focused on the decisive function for the public to cognize architectural culture from Pseudo-Environment created by Architecture Criticism. On the other hand, to make the research more clearly, the process of Architecture Criticism was classified into two steps: producing and spreading, according to Communication. Different from the past studies that partially focused on the producing step, the dissertation opined that both side should not be neglected."Producing"emphasized on the content of the criticism, while"Spreading"on the form of communication. They are supplements to each other and have a dialectic relationship as substance and form. Furthermore, the research analyzed the dual effects of mass culture and communication on Architecture Criticism in China.
