China's power grid development has entered a new period of inter-regional power grid interconnection and promoting power resources optimal allocation in a wider scope. While the grid security and stability and vulnerability problems are becoming more and more prominent, the snow ice hazard in early 2008 sounded the alarm. Grid structure is the basis of power system safe and stable operation. Power grid planning has always emphasized the overall concept combining with distance. Snow and ice rain disasters are inevitable. Therefore, in the stage of power grid planning and design, it must research the effect of ice, war and other natural disasters to grid security; establish a large-scale power system concepts; attaches great importance to the security and flexibility of Power Grid System structure and layout. There are also other reasons to develop distributed generation. Firstly, there are still many residents without power in China's remote western regions. It is difficult to extend power grid in technology and economic. Resource are rich in western China, therefore, the use of renewable energy to generate electricity can be a more economical way to remote areas to meet the demand for electricity users. Secondly, the use of renewable energy distributed generation can also reduce the use of conventional energy, as well as the environmental pollution. In addition, after the establishment of competition in the electricity market, the role of distributed generation will be increasingly obvious and important. Combine it with the existing power system to form a highly efficient, flexible power system to improve can improve energy efficiency and provide the stability, reliability and power quality of the whole power supply system. This paper studies on renewable energy distributed generation such as wind energy, solar energy, terrestrial heat and biological energy, and makes techno-economic analysis of all kinds of renewable energy distributed generation as well as storage technology; analysis the effect of distributed generation to power grid using the clustering techniques and Monte Carlo analysis. On this basis, resolve the capacity distribution of different types of units and output scheduling problem of various types of units; Finally, this paper provides optimal coordination and planning methods of renewable energy distributed generation and centralized power supply, and makes case studies. The concrete contents include power planning study based on distributed generation, distribution planning including distributed generation, and reliability assessment indexes as well as assessment method of coordination and planning of generation and distributed generation. In this paper, the study has an important role in both theory and practice to guide China's electric power industry development strategies and long-term planning.
