The model of folded plate flocculator is the test object in this paper. Using the the mechanism and dynamic of coagulation precipitation, vortex of fluid of folded plate flocculator impacting on the coagulation process is studied by test, numerical simulation and theoretical analysis.Firstly, according to the mechanism and kinetics model of coagulation, the process of coagulation dynamics of folded plate flocculator is analyzed and flow pattern has an important impact on flocculation effect too.Secondly, the model of the folded plate flocculator is designed and the simulation system for the flow of folded plate flocculator is established. At the same time, the PFV system is introduced and the following of the Particle Tracing is explored. By changing the angle of the folded plate in the flocculator, the structure of fluid is tested using PIV technology. The results can be interpreted the impact because of different angles folded plate for flow structure, as well as the structure of the vortex flow for coagulation reactions.Thirdly, in order to comparing with the results of PIV for folded plate flocculator in the paper, two-dimensional mathematical model of flow is applied and the orthogonal curvilinear coordinates numerical model is established. Volume control method for 2-D mathematical model is used to numerical simulation for the flow field of folded plate flocculator and the results obtained that are relatively in line with the PIV technology results.Finally, through the flocculation and sediment tests, the effect of flocculation and sedimentation and the coagulant dosage for the combination of different angles folded plates are studied. The program is put forward the combination of 90°opposite folded plate at the first section and 90°same wave folded plate at the second section, and the PIV testing and simulation results is verified. Based on the above mentioned areas of research, the flow characteristics of folded plate flocculator has a significant impact on the coagulation effect and the best combination of folded plate in flocculator is obtained that is a great guide to actual projects.
