Study On Design Methods For Rational Automotive Styling

Although growing very fast, because of relative late, chinese auto industry is still on its way to catch up. So does chinese automotive styling, still in the transition phase from learning the advanced design concepts to the independent innovation. The design concept and thinking mode ain't mature enough. The design style and method are still confusing. Furthermore, domestic research on auto design theory is still at start stage, and auto styling subject in college is infantile, with limited profession scale and confusing education mode. Hardly arised successful domestic auto design case has.But with swift spreading of auto in China, the receptivity and aesthetic judgement of chinese are boosting. Thus the upmost problem at present is to perfect chinese auto design theory and design popular model. While as the first step of auto design, auto styling claims more urgent and strict requirement. The most difficult problem set at front of contemporary stylist is to research more scientific and rational auto styling theories and methods. Global science's progress and development of relative subjects will definitely inject fresh idea and method to automotive styling design, and these new idea and method are still need to be discovered by people in automotive styling profession.Basing on basic theories of automotive styling, aesthetics, methematics, manufacturing engineering, value engineering, and aerodynamics, by research on auto styling and rational design, this paper presents the "rantional automotive styling" concept, and combining the design work of "863" national key financed project:"heavy commercial vehicle cab design" from "heavy auto integrated development's advanced technology", "zhu que" electrical concept car development, Light truck cab interior and exterior trim style design, "NEST" concept car style design and "863" national key financed project:"key technology research about integration of auto 2D styling and 3D modeling", made research on "rational automotive styling" concept and design method as below.The research content of this paper primarily follows the train of thought as"idea deduction→idea specific design→design analysis with engineering facts→design evaluation", covers whole auto styling process, and annotates design works at each stage respectively. Which contains design methods about, idea rationalization, logic rationalization, scale rationalization and engineering rationalization. Furthermore, applies value engineering (VE) to automotive styling, guiding the process of automotive styling design and evaluation, and provides rational methods about styling design and evaluation based on VE.By explaining the design methods of idea rationalization, this paper first presents the concept of function f(n)(idea), rationalize the object idea by methematical deductive way; secondly makes specific interpretion about application of idea rationalization, which is idea function also, meanwhile, discovers the methods of idea rationalization not only helps design of stylist, but also is helpful when design decision makers make their proposal choice; thirdly provides specific applicable methods about shaping Chinese automotive style by function f(n)(idea), and provides applicable advice about Chinese automotive style; last applys the design methods of idea rationalization in practice.The presentation of logic rationalization concept and methods, is basing on the logic thought application in auto styling procedure. Combining two projects of design work, made research on methods of logic rationalization as below:As the design in-put is established, logic rationalization could help designers locate automotive styling precisely; At the beginning of design work, logic rationalization could also help designers determine style design features; In specific style design, the application of logic rationalization method in specific style design would makes design more scientific and reasonable.Scale is one of the primary, and also the most important fact affecting automotive styling. Different class model has different scale. By concluding different class' scale features, finding out design rules of whole scale and detail scale, forming the design method of scale rationalization, and applying the design methods of scale rationalization in practice. Scale rationalization could grasp style very well and make automotive styling more harmonious.The explaination of engineering rationalization design method proceeds with the contradiction of engineering and style design in three areas as manufacturing process, assembling technology and engineering structure, points out the essence of contradiction, clarifies the design thought of engineering rationalization. By the way of providing the solution to specific problem, clarifies that engineering rationalization design method assures style aesthetic and improves design feasibility. At last applys the design methods of engineerin rationalization in practice of "NEST" design.Finally value engineering (VE) is applied to automotive styling, guiding the process of automotive styling design and evaluation. By explaining the concept of VE, and summarizing the relationships from VE and automotive styling desing, this paper provides "the design principle of automotive styling", "the design flow of automotive styling" and "the evaluation method of automotive styling". At last, by practice of "zhu que" electrical recreation car design, summarizing the significance of leading VE into automotive styling design. On the conceptual level, leading the value of ideas into the design, helps to style design of rational and effective, makes the design more in-depth, and increases product value; on the method level; the VE theory can either guid the design process, but also timely make a rational evaluation of the design. In short, VE can make automotive styling more in line with engineering, and improve the effectiveness of the design work.principal highlight:1.
