Number of in-vehicle electrical & electronic devices increases with the improvement of automotive economy, safety, and comfort, which induces the problem such as automotive harness, diagnostics, coordinate problem and driver-machine interface. To give a solution to the problem above, a new kind of vehicle electrical system is proposed based on Intelligent Electrical & Electronic Device (IEED), which is named IEED system for short. The system features indivisual IEEDs, communication network and power network. The electrical devices have the function of diagnosis, cooperation, and be manipulated through network. automotive harness is also simplified and have no relation to device.Firstly, Network is designed for IEED system. All the IEED is divided into two classes: global device and local device, which are connected by the backbone network and local area network. The power supply is divided into weak power supply and strong power supply. So in IEED system there are 3 kinds of network: backbone network, local area network and power network.Secondly, network's wire system is defined. With standard interface, IEED's connector, wires and harness are all standardized. So Invariant Harness is proposed, which is composed of 3 kinds of harness: backbone harness, local harness, and power harness. 3D virtual design method is applied to get the layout of Invariant Harness in the real vehicle, as well as their parameters.IEED is realized by adding a controller to each device. Three principles are proposed: standard interface, modularized circuit and instruct command. Four general modular and twelve execute modular are designed through modular design method; Downlink algorithm and uplink algorithm are also designed to make up the intelligent algorithm. The device's controller is then assembled by such modular and algorithm directly.Intelligent electrical power management system is developed to make the power network more safe. In-vehicle computer is used as human-machine interface of this system, which allow multi-mode manipulation of IEED. So IEED can be manipulated through speech control, touch screen control and the traditional button control.Electrical Coordination method is proposed to solve control problem between IEEDs, which is realized in Central Coordinator. Central Coordinator makes the system reliable, the IEEDs independent and simplified.IEED system prototype is developed based on a bus. Experiment results show that Invariant Harness is greatly simplified compared with former automotive harness, multi-mode manipulation is feasible and electrical coordination works well.
