Population explosion, land degradation and environment deterioration are austere challenges lie ahead of the sustainable development of the current society. As human's living space, the sustainable using of land resources has become the attention core of government and society. How to grasp space-time variable information of such problems systematically and correctly and how to constitute the valid prevention and cure measures timely have become the task people must face up to. So we imminently need present land resource data with geography attributes, to have a study. Many models' creators who integrate environment deterioration with population explosion to study are in badly need of the reliable and the latest spatial database about agriculture climatic condition, terrain and soil, water resources and agricultural hydrology, land cover and the status of land use.Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system, which not only can collect, store, manage, fetch and synthetically analyse all kinds of geographic spatial data, but also can output data and graph in many forms. With powerful functions hi spatial data's management and analysis, GIS has been widely accepted by many subjects and fields related to spatial geography information. In order to manage soil information, exchange soil information and use soil information efficiently, we developed soil information system by using GIS.Ever since the 1970s, the contents related to soil resource have already expanded largely, they have began to serve for agriculture, industry, city planning and military service synthetically and people have began to regard soil resource as the conjunct results of geosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. Therefore, the dataset about soil resource information system are cross-subject and multilayer interweaving. Soil Information System (SIS), which is also called Soil Geographic Information System (SGIS) or Soil Resource Information System (SRIS), can be comprehended as a method of spatial data management and analysis which uses GIS for soil science, a technical system to synthetically handle and analyse the geography data of soil attributes and spatial meaning, a data system in which people can collect, store manage, analyse and display soil resources attributes and spatial relationship according to their needs. Because any SRIS is composed of limited point dataset, there must be a link in which we use point dataset to estimate a certain area soil properties.Because SIS can provide consumers with accurate, timely soil information and related information, it is inevitable to apply this kind of technology to the world soil variance research. At the same time, it is urgently required to create and improve SIS for accurately appraising earth productive forces, timely monitoring the earth quality variance and creating the model of the world variance. In recent years, practices also indicated that it is a general trend to create SIS supported by GIS.As Chongqing for instance, this paper has developed Area Soil Information System (ASIS) and made applications study of the system. The main contents and results include: 1. The development of ASIS(1)The target and task of ASIS. Applying computer technique and GIS technique, associating with soil professional knowledge, creating various kind of application models, collecting, managing and analyzing the historical and the current soil information data, all that provide the science references for making use of and appraising the soil resources, earth degradation and environment variance. ASIS can satisfy the requirements in every facet of inputting, managing, outputting various soil information and data statistic, simulating, optimizing of soil information.(2)The building of the development model of ASIS. At the beginning, the purpose of many sections, organizations and individuals building GIS project is not to share their data with other people, but to use GIS to manage and maintain their own estate, resources and facilities. Therefore, the traditional GIS s...
