| Vegetation restoration is key measures of combating desertification. After analyzing vegetation restoration of Kerqin Sandy Land, it was indicated that there were abundant achievements on afforestation technology, such as suitable afforestation plants, survival rate and reserving rate. In Kerqin sandy land, there were large number of artificial poplar and pine woodland, now forest coverage have increased to 29% from 7% in 1950. Expanding desertification land have been controlled, some economic benefit have been obtained. there were "little poplar trees" in big areas in Kerqin sandy land, and Pinus sylvestris var. Mongolic growth declined in recent years. It indicated that poplar and Pinus sylvestris var. Mongolic were not suitable vegetation of Kerqin sandy land, they can not sustain in this area. Which kind of vegetation will be suitable to Kerqin sandy land? Which is an important question to be answer. After studied natural vegetation and artificial vegetation, we consider that the suitable vegetation is not forest but steppe-woodland. Steppe-woodland is the azonal vegetation of Kerqin sandy land. Spare forest grassland is azonal natural vegetation, be make up of arbors, grass and shrubs of patience drought. Arbors are main species of community and gather or grow into bunches. Grasses grow well under arbors. The arbors are of great benefit to the grass, also make best ecological and economical benefits. It is fit for sandy land of grassland zone. Steppe-woodland is restorable by hill fence, and we can construct new steppe-woodland. Steppe-woodland will be best steady and sustainable development vegetation. Three kinds of steppe-woodlands and management were provided in this paper. The management of steppe-woodland have good developed potential, it will bring sandy land control and desertification combating in semi-land to new phase.
