The karst mountainous area is a unique type of physiognomy. Due to its uniqueness, forestry in karst area takes an important position in social economic development. Located in the center of karst area in southwest China, Guizhou is one of the districts whose karst physiognomy well developed and concentrative distributed. It is important to study the sustainable forestry development in Guizhou karst area. The designing thinking road of appraisement index system of forestry sustainable development in karst area has been put forward. This index system could be divided into 4 levels, which are overall layer( one index), systematic layer ( 4 indexes ) , variable layer( 11 indexes) and essential factor layer ( 57 indexes ) respectively. The improved AHP method and the entropy weight method were used to appraise the forestry sustainable development in karst area. After analyzing the advantages and shortcoming of the two methods of integration analysis, combining the results of AHP method and entropy weight method, the index weight vectors which have taken the objective and subjective factors into consideration were gained. It is concluded that this assessment technique is suitable for appraisement of forestry sustainable development in karst area. The result shows that the order of forestry sustainable development of 4 investigated counties, from high to low, was Jinsha, Qingzhen, Xixiu and Liuzhi. The basis and characteristic of karst vulnerable ecological environment and the superior biological climate condition have been analyzed systematically. Strategies of forest sustainable development have been proposed in this paper which included rehabilitation of degraded karst environment, vegetation protection and recovery, resources utilization and eco-economical forestry development.
