Nitrogen is one of the most important factors affecting wheat grain yield and quality. Many experiments have been conducted to investigate N content in wheat plants, N absorption amount, N absorption climax period and the relationship between grain yield and N requirement. Based on the characteristics of nitrogen absorption and accumulation in different types of wheat, research focus is now putting on achieving high yield, increasing nitrogen application efficiency and improving grain quality by reasonable fertilizer application. The differences of nitrogen absorption and utilization and regulation techniques among three types of wheat varieties for different end uses were studied in different locations from 2000 to 2005. The tested varieties included strong-gluten wheat Wanmai38 and Yang2801, medium-gluten wheat Yangmai10, Yangmai11 and Huimai18, and weak-gluten wheat Ningmai9,Yangmai9, Yangfumai2 and Jianmai1. The experiment sites included experiment field of Jiangsu Provincial Key Lab of Crop Cultivation and Physiology of Yangzhou University (sandy loam soil) and Jiangyan (highly sandy soil) in Yangtze River region, Gaoyou (clay soil) and Jiangyan(medium loam soil) in Lixiahe region and Fengxian(sandy loam soil) in Huaibei region. The experiments mainly studied the characteristics of N absorption,...
