Nowadays, the delay in childbearing has become an important societal change in human being, which is contributing to an increasing incidence of infertility/subfertility due to the Ubiquitous female reproductive aging (i.e., the fertility decline with advanced maternal ages), especially in women with higher education. In fact, the age-related decrease of reproductive capacity also exists in other animals. If the changing process of reproductive capacity could be understood, it would benefit the human being greatly. However, it is impossible to make a direct and extensive research on human reproductive aging for some ethical factors or others. Therefore, researchers can only use the animal model to survey this phenomenon, and then transfer the related theory and mechanism to human being. Sows show similar decline in prolificacy with advanced age too, although it seems, nobody has paid attend to the issue in swine industry, furthermore, nobody ever connected this with female reproductive aging. There are still many different opinions about reproductive aging, but it is generally believed that the biological basis of decreased fecundity with increasing female age mainly includes that, germ cells in the female are not replenished during life, attrition and utilization of follicles leads to a decline in the number of oocytes from birth to the end of fecundity, the quality of existing oocytes diminishes with age, and so on. Obviously, the phenomenon of female reproductive aging is closely related to the decrease of germ cell number. In many mammalians, the ovary is endowed at birth with a fixed number of primordial follicles, which steadily dwindles throughout life as a result of atresia and recruitment towards ovulation till the ultimate exhaustion. That is, the new born individual has established their germ cells repertory during the fetus stage, and such limited storage must serve to the whole reproductive life. Sows have a similar pattern of germ cell development in different stages of life as that observed in humans. And so, in this study, Duroc ×Meishan(DM, n=101) and PIC× (Landrace×Large White)(PLL, n=78) hybrid gilts were chosen to...
