The biological effect and medical application of millimeter wave (MMW) are the most important and interesting topics in sciences and technology. However, the work done so seems far from enough. These are many unknown and blank spots. This dissertation has made a detailed and systematic research for the cellular and molecular mechanism of the biological effect of MMW, as well as the antitumor effects and mechanism of MMW to human cancer cell, A lot of important results have been obtained. The major works and essentials of this dissertation are given below: 1. The actions and effects of the MMW on human nonnal cells were studied by using normal lymphocytes separated from human peripheral blood as the study model. The results conflnned that MMW with certain frequency window and energy window may give influence on the normal lymphocytes plasma membrane Ca2~ passage channel permeability and the intracellular Ca~ balance in cell, and then affect the information transmission function in cell Ca2~ and cell function. The possible ways which MMW affects the information transmission in cell, the important meaning of cell function affected by the changes of the messenger in cell and cell membrane permeability have been analyzed in detail. The target effect of MMW to cell was recognized from one side, which provided the important basis for the action mechanism of MMW on biological cell. 2. The change of immunity index of patients with malignant tumor and their peripheral blood cells were detected regularly within treatment courses the influence of MMW on peripheral blood cell and cellular immunity of tumor patients was emphatically studied. Results indicate that the part irradiation of MMW could arouse marrow protect~ stimulate cellular immunity and regulate the immunity balance of human body, these provide strong evidence for the distant biological effects of the ~w. 3. The physical factor (millimeter wave) was used as differentiation agent to induce human cancer cell to differentiation (reversion) and induce apoptosis. The research showed that low power density MMW could induce human leukemia (NB4) cells differentiation obviously and induce the cells apoptosis in vitro, as well as m inhibited proliferation of the cancer cells. The study also discovered that MIvIW had notably effects to adjust and control the oncogene and suppress oncogene and to TGF- ~ expression. The mechanism of inducing differentiation and apoptosis that MMW start and trigger cells may have multiple levels and multiple ways. The discrepancy of the two different power density actions of MMW has also fairly studied, the result showed the effects of MMW to cancer cells have power density selectivity~ therefore, it established important foundation for treatment of tumor by using MMW. 4. The inducing effect of MMW on nasopharyngeal cancer cell has been studied. The research confirmed that the MMW with specified frequency and power density has obvious inhibition effect on the proliferation of nasopharyngeal cancer cells, and may also reduce their activity~ makes them to be differentiated, induces them apoptosis. The most attention has been paid to the nasopharyngeal cancer cell apoptosis induced by MMW and its molecular mechanism.
