Dysfunction of gastrointestinal motility (DGM) is common disease in clinic, in rout i rie medical duties, about 30%~40% patients were diagnosed to be DGM. DGM includes weak contraction, rhyth disturbance, contracting disorderly. There is no appelation of the gastrointestinal motility in TCM. TCM thinks that DGM is controlled by the normal ascent and descent of the spleen and stomach, which lies to harmony of ascent arid descent the spleen and stomach qi, dispersion and discharge of the liver and gallblader, and warm and nourish of the kidney yang. In TCM, DGM is "epigastragia", "feeling of fullness in the chest and upper abdomen", "gastric upset", "acid regurgitation" etc. Base on an overall analysis of the illness and the patient's condition, TCM can regulate and improve the gastrointestinal movement by comprehensive treat as a whole in diagnosis and treatment. Lots of clinic and study data proved that the Chinese herbal medicine could improve the disorder of the gastrointestinal movement, especially the Chinese herbal medicine has two-side regulation. At the same time, it make good treatmenton the whole body and the other pathologic change.Chen Pi and Zhi Qiao are /-flow regulating herbal medicine, and are used widely in clinic, Chen Pi, acrid-bitter flavour, warm in nature, act on the Lung and Spleen Channel, enter the stomach, can regulate qi and harmonize the stomach, is used to treat fullness of the chest and epigastrium, anorexia, vomiting and diarrhea, adverse rising of the stomach qi, nausea and hiccup etc. Zhi Qiao, acrid-bitter and sour flavour, slightly cold in nature, act on the Spleen and Stomach Channel, enter the large and small intestine. It can regulate qi, relieve intestine stuffiness and clear the hollow viscera, is used to treat fullness and distension of the chest and abdomen, feeling of fullness in chest and upper abdomen and distending pain, dyspepsia etc. The past study indicated that Chen Pi and Zhi Qiao inhibited the spontaneous contraction of isolated intestine. Zhi Qiao excited the fistula of the stomach and intestine. We study the action rule and mechanism of Chen Pi and Zhi Qiao on gastrointestinal tract in whole body, isolated organ and isolated single cell.1. Effect of Chen Pi and Hesperidin on activity of Gastrointesti ne in an ima IThe varied concentrations of Chen Pi and Hesperidin act on the spontaneous contraction of isolated rabbit intestine were studied. With the reformative content mensuration, the effect of Chen Pi and Hesperidin on the gastric emptying function (GEF) and small intestinal propulsive function (SIPF) of the mice were studied. With the isolated smooth muscle cells suspension that was digested by collagenase II, we studied that the effect of Hesperidin on the isolated cells. Results: Chen Pi (6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) all inhibited significantly the spontaneous contraction, decreased the mean contractile amplitude and declined the intensity of thestrips and was dose-dependent. It could antagonized the excitedaction caused by Ach, BaCla, 5-HT. And could strengthened theinhibitory action caused by atropine, adrenaline, dopamine. Chen Pihad no effect on the action caused by regitine and propranolol. ChenPi and Hesperidin had no effect on the normal GEF and SIPF, couldantagonize the excited gastric emptying induced by neosligmine inmice, and strengthen the delayed GEF induced by atropine andadrenaline, but had no effect on the stimulated SIPF or delayed SIPFby them. Hesperidin antagonized the delayed GEF and SIPF induced byatropine and adrenaline, but had no effect on the stimulated GEF andSIPF induced by neostigmine. Hesperidin had no effect on the isolatedstomach smooth mucle cells. The results indicates that Chen Pi hasa restraining effect on the intestinal movement, and has certaininhibiting effect on the gastric emptying, hesperidin has no markedeffect on the gastrointestinal dynamics. The mechanism of Chen Piis mainly via cholinergic, adrenergic and 5-HT systems or directlyacti...
