Vertebroplasty, is a method to strengthen vertebral body, by means of injecting bone cement into vertebral body directly or through pedicles, so as to increase vertebral body strength and stiffness, maintain stability, prevent vertebral body collapse, eliminate back pain, even restore the vertebral body height partially. In this study, we are intended to verify calcium phosphate cement to be a suitable material in the Vertebroplasty, by means of biomechanical research, material research, animal experiment, and clinical practice.1. After being injected CPC into bone trabecular interspaces, the fractured vertebral bodies can markly restore its strength and stiffness, which is 2 times of its initial strength and 11.5% of its initial stiffness at topmost. The degree of restoration is rekted to the CPC injecting volume.2. After being packed CPC to the space in the fractrued vertebral body , the fractured body increases its strength and stiffness by 16.67% (P<0.05) and 11.05%(P<0.05) separately in comparison with its initial situationo3. After Vertebroplasty, too high stiffness of the vertebral body result in redistribution of stress field and displacement field in the adjacent vertebral body and adjacent intervertebral disc, but its influence is limited.4. Curettement of the canceUous bone under bone endplate do not influence intervertebral disc nutrition. The space between the cartilaginous and bony endplate rich in the vessel bud.5. Adding 0.5-1mm Diameter cancellous particles do not influence material mechanical characteristics , and the compound bone cement can still coagulate in a short time.6. The compound cement demonstrate a luring bone formation capacity, the compound cement is degraded to the large at 4 month in the dogs' vertebral body, while at this time pure CPC only has a small quality degradation at its border.7. Under X-ray fluoroscopy, adding 5-10% barium sulfate to the CPC obtains satisfactory developing effect, while the mechanical characteristics of CPC is not decreased.8.The rudiment clinical practices demonstrate that percutanenous vertebroplasty is very effective to eliminate back pain due to osteoporosis, and its manipulation is simple. The new ideas of this study: applying calcium phosphate to percutaneous vertebroplasty; manufactruing a new compound cement; by destroy the cancellous structure under endplate, investigating disc nutrition characteristics from a new angle.
