| The article discusses the opinion of western medicine to CSA(Vertebral Artery Type Cervical Spondylopathy) at the basic of reference of large amount of literature. The mechanism of senile CSA mainly lies in oppressed vertebral artery ,and/or .a series of evocable biochemical changes, such as kinetic change of blood stream, hindrance of microcirculation , damnification of free radical and so on. These factors interlace each other and cause very complicated pathologic injury process; they also have relationship with senile CSA .According to old literatures and modern research reports, CSA belongs to vertigo in traditional medicine. It's location is Qing Qiao. Senile vertigo , whether it is "with fire or phlegm" or "with stagnation of blood", the basic of them is the deficiency of Qi. The deficiency of Qi and stagnation of blood is the essential mechanism of senile vertigo. Because of specialties of senile physiology and pathology, some traditional methods ,such as decoction of herbs,acupuncture ,massage, traction, hardly have quick effect in acute cases or have difficulties in practice. Methods of western medicine, use drugs respectively aiming at single pathologic mechanism; so it is difficult to acquire holistic effect; in addition, side effects of Western medicine itself or evocable complexities limit it's application at a certain degree . In allusion to above-mentioned questions, at the basic and guidance of tutor's clinical experiences of many years, we bring forward that the essential therapeutic principle is to increase Qi and activate blood; this principle should run through the treatment of the disease all along. On the precondition of pay attention to taking good advantage of holistic adjustment and multistage-treatment of traditionalChinese medicine, from various injection from Chinese herbs we choose Huang Qi Injection and Chuan Xiong Qin Injection to increase Qi and activate blood, remove obstruction in the collaterals and induce resuscitation. The result of observation of 80 cases of senile CSA shows: the curative and remarkablely effective rate of therapeutic group is 75 percent, total effective rate is 92.5 percent; the curative and remarkablely effective rate of control group is 52.5 percent, total effective rate is 87.5 percent; the curative and remarkablely effective rate of therapeutic group is markedly overmatch control group(P<0.05). And the time therapeutic group needed to acquire curative effect is evidently shorter than control group; there is markedly difference between the groups in the time needed to acquire efficiency and clinic recovery(P<0.01).As to symptoms and syndromes, there is evidently improvement after treatment in therapeutic group(P<0.05 or 0.01), meliorate rate of vertigo, faint, tongue coating and pulse condition are better than control group(P<0.01). Laborotary examination ,TCD,and vertical ultrasonometry show that traditional Chinese medicine of increasing Qi and activating blood can reduce lipoprotion and plasma viscosity, improve homodynamic, resist coagulation ,thrombosis and damnification of free radical, protect blood vessels and nerves, improve vascular permeability and hindrance of microcirculation; increase blood flux of carotid,basilar-vertibral,debase vascular resistance, improve blood flux of cerebral blood vessel, correct ischemia.The differences are all distinct compared with control group. Animal experiment shows: Huang Qi Injection and Chuan Xiong Qin Injection can reduce rat's plasma viscosity,improve microcirculation, distend diameter of rat's mesenteric capillary vessel ,increase velocity of blood stream ; increase velocity of blood stream of rabbit's carotid, presenting certain relationship between time and effect ; distend rabbit's thoracic aorta markedly ,reduce vascular resistance, presenting positive relationship between time and effect;increase activity of rat's serous SOD, reduce concentration of ET, increase concentration of rat's serous 6-keto-PGFla, reduce concentration of TXB2.
