In the beginning of this dissertation the author makes a brief introduction of the abundant medical contents contained in the ancient books written in Qin and Han Dynasties. After a general survey of lexical researches and studies done in the field of ancient Chinese linguistic study on the ancient words in Qin and Han Dynasties, the author finds that The Canon of Internal Medicine (Huangdi Neijing) has been rarely studied by the linguists. Then the author reviews the researches on the Canon done by the scholars of medicine, finding that the current research focus is still on the textual study and explanation of the meanings of the difficult words through evidences and data. Until now no one has studied on the medical terms firstly appearing in The Canon so far. The author systematically detects new medical terms firstly used in the Canon, among which there are 83 new words and 384 words with new definitions, then makes synchronic description, diachronic comparison and statistical analysis of the meanings of some typical words and phrases in depth within the theoretical structure of the Canon. Those medical terms first used in the Canon are one of the headstreams of Chinese Medicine lexicon. Those terms represent the innovation of the Canon over the development of Chinese medicine in the previous dynasties, form important part of the theoretical system of the Canon and lay a good foundation for the further development of Chinese Medicine.
